The AHS Women in Surgery Leadership Session will focus on the development of leadership skills to foster advancement in clinical practice, academia, and the global field of Surgery. All surgeons are invited to attend to learn about pathways, active processes, means and methods to promote development and create equal opportunities for all to excel as surgeons and leaders.

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the systems in which surgeons function, the implicit and explicit barriers to success that gender plays, and pathways to successful development and promotion of surgeon
  • Identify strategies and skills necessary to develop as a surgeon
  • Formulate meaningful initiatives and promote opportunities to achieve equality and diversity of gender and race in the leadership of surgical practices
