General Information
The 2020 AHS Virtual Annual Meeting will foster ongoing learning in the field of Hernia, Abdominal Core Health, and Abdominal Wall Surgery in a safe and accessible format for surgeons, physicians, residents, medical students, and medical professionals in the United States and around the world. The curriculum of this event will allow physicians to improve patient care, outcomes, quality, and professional skills.
The field of Hernia has significantly grown and matured to encompass several interrelated topics in including traditional hernia repair, management of complex abdominal wall reconstruction, groin and abdominal pain, hiatal hernia repair and foregut surgery, as well as rectus diastasis and abdominal core health issues. This activity will facilitate understanding of the science of these pathologies, the diagnosis and management of these conditions, the indications and limitations of surgical approaches, operative techniques and surgical tools including robotics and prosthetic materials, and the delivery of care in diverse practice environments.
Based upon the identified needs, these changes are expected as a result of participating in the activity:
Recognize the dynamic, expanding field of Abdominal Core Surgery
Interpret and implement new techniques to address simple and complex pathology
Compare the new materials and prosthetics (meshes, biologics, bioabsorbable) available to facilitate hernia repair and the potential complications and weakness associated with these products
Interpret the role of big data and registers in improving our decision making and delivery of care
Evaluate the role and benefits of emerging technologies and robotics in Hernia Repair
